Tennis superstar and Las Vegas native Andre Agassi started his Agassi Charitable Foundation in 1994. He organized and created 11 charities that consists of educational and recreational programs for the under privilege Las Vegas kids.
“Giving back is something I always had an intention of doing if life gave me those opportunities,” Agassi said. “The question was how and when.”
Each of the foundation’s administrative and overhead costs come from contributions made by Agassi himself or his business. The donations go directly to the charities. He has given $1.2 million for his own Boys & Girls Club, which opened in 1997. Also, he has provided close to $2 million in donations, equipment and activities for Child Haven. Which is, a public shelter for abused and neglected children. Furthermore, he gave $1.5 million toward the construction of the Andre Agassi Charter School, it opened up in September 2001. He has done a lot and still continues to this day.
“I care about my community because it’s my community,” Agassi said. “I hope that in everything I do, people find inspiration. That’s an incredible way to live.”
